Sourdough Adventures: What I Wasn’t Expecting From An Organism
I recently went to a Human Design retreat where all of the food was healthy and delicious. One of the last dishes that was made was a sourdough crust pizza. It was one of the most delicious pizzas I’ve ever had.
When I got home I started to research how to make a sourdough starter. I wanted to recreate that pizza and continue the retreat experience at home for as long as I could.
With all of the information I came across, I didn’t realize when I started that in order to make sourdough you have to create a live, living organism.
It was a commitment, just like a pet.
And with having a pet, comes having responsibility for keeping it alive.
Learning how to keep it going, when and how much to feed it, how often to feed it, and how to know when it’s hungry or happy.
No wonder having a 100 year old sourdough starter was such a big deal. That means several generations of bakers have kept that thing alive for that long.
I really wanted that sourdough pizza crust, so I was committed.
That’s when I dove into the rich and wonderful world of sourdough breads.
Once my sourdough starter was ready to go, I made the pizza crust first thing.
