From Corporate Chains to Entrepreneurial Freedom: My Journey Through the School of Hard Knocks
Navigating the Challenges of Self-Employment and Finding Success as a Virtual Assistant and Business Coach
When I first started out as a full-time Entrepreneur back in 2013, I had to face the biggest challenge of my life…
Freedom.
I had been working 9–5 corporate jobs for 13 years, chained to a desk and a time clock.
They owned my time.
That’s the thing about working for someone else in a job setting. When they pay you, they are paying for your expertise and your time.
They are paying you to be there and to only work for them during those times.
The literal distinction between an employee and a contractor is that when you’re an employee the employer tells you when and where to spend your time. When you’re a contractor, you set your own hours.
Since I had been an employee my entire adult life up to that point, the sense of freedom was greatest I had ever experienced and also the scariest.
I was now in charge of my time and my destiny.
When you’re an entrepreneur, you get to set your own hours or just work whenever you feel like it.
